Description
Finca la Emperatriz Terruño 2011 is a single plot of red wine produced solely from Rioja’s queen variety, namely Tempranillo. The grapes come from old vines grown in one of the finest terroirs of the Finca La Emperatriz winery. Manually harvested at the end of October, the wine was cold-macerated before alcoholic fermentation in order to maximize the extraction of color and aromas. Then the wine must have been fermented for 16 days in open barrels, after which it was transferred into oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation. Finca la Emperatriz Terruño 2009 was aged for 16 months in new and 2nd year French oak (80%) and American oak (20%) barrels. Production of only 16,000 bottles. Drink now until 2022+. Decant this wine from Rioja45 minutes before drinking. Appearance Bright, high cherry-colored robe with a crimson rim. Nose Pristine aromas of cherries, strawberries and raspberries, punctuated by notions of underbush, wet earth, cedar, balsam, menthol and spices. Palate Fresh and juicy, showing a real sense of terroir, some mineral undertones, and a silky body. Red berries, aromatic herbs and some tertiary aromas of spices and leather. Crisp acidity and a long, balsamic finish.
